Evel Knievel died the other day at the age of 69. Apparently Knievel had been in failing health for years with diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable lung condition. In 1999 he underwent a liver transplant after nearly dying of hepatitis C, which he believed he had contracted through a blood transfusion after one of many violent spills.

What I am most surprised by is that, after all of those years of insane, death defying stunts, and 15 major operations to relieve severe trauma and repair broken bones, that in the end, he passed away at a fairly old age from diabetes and pulmonary fibrosis. I always thought he would go down in a blaze of glory in one last, nationally broadcast crazy stunt, like maybe jumping the grand canyon on a rocket bike!

Rest in peace Evel. Thank you the years of entertainment.
