A friend and I were discussing Matt Garza earlier. He just acquired him in our fantasty baseball keeper league. I like Garza, but pointed out that that's a rich rotation, and he's on the outside looking in right now. He agreed, but pointed out that Baker and Silva aren't very good, and he doesn't think it will be long before Garza is added.
I agree that Garza is the better pitcher, and the spot will be his, but I doubt it will be soon.
That's a downright scarey pitching staff once Garza is in there, and he and Slowey get up to speed. In two seasons you could be looking at Johan Santana, Liriano, Boof Bonser, Matt Garza, and Kevin Slowey. On top of it, add that bullpen, which I believe to be the best in baseball, and that's pretty impressive. They'll be good for a long time. The Twins are already a major player in that division, but it Garza and Slowey live up to expectations, and they can get a couple of bats to go with Morneau and Mauer (Hunter's gone after this season Twins fans. Admit it), then they'll be a force to contend with in a strong division.
Some good baseball in that A.L. Central this year. |

Baker sure looked good last night. That was a tough luck loss he took. His last two starts have both been very good.
If Baker keeps it up, Garza might be in for a long wait to crack the rotation, with Santana, Liriano, Bonser, and Slowey all written in stone. |
