Here we go! Back in for another season of NFL action! I will do my best to raise
the bar this year. Last season.... wasn't so good.
Week 1 is always tough as a lot of teams haven't yet established their identity
and you really don't know what to expect out of a lot of guys. That being said,
let's get this show on the road!
WEEK 1
I like:
Buffalo +3 over Denver @ Buffalo
Cinci -2.5 over Baltimore @ Cinci
I love:
Indy -6 over New Orleans @ Indy
St.Louis -1 over Carolina @ St.Louis
New England -6.5 over NY Jets @ New York
and my Sure Fire, Can't Miss, Etched in Stone, Iron Clad Lock of the Week:
Arizona +3 over San Fran @ San Fran
Pittsburgh -4.5 over Cleveland @ Cleveland
Kansas City +3 over Houston @ Houston
Note- These picks are for entertainment purposes only. |

| 4-2 with 2 games to go. Nice start to the season. You are assured of no worse than .500 against the spread. I say you wind up 5-3. You are in trouble with that San Fran game. They're better than they were last season, playing at home, and Leinhart still isn't ready to handle the reins of an NFL offense. |

| Wow. Good call SportsDad. 5-3, and it went down like you thought it would. Keep 'em coming. You could make us all a lot of money... I mean... of course... if we were all into that sort of thing, which none of us are. This is strictly for entertainment purposes only! |

Okay. So this year, I think I'll keep them all under the same topic. Keeps the forum less cluttered that way. Off to a decent start in week one, let's see if we can't improve upon that in week two. A few games REALLY jump out at me this week. Naturally, those would be the locks.
WEEK 2
I like:
San Diego +3 over New England @ New England
Kansas City +12 over Chicago @ Chicago
I love:
Dallas -3.5 over Miami @ Miami
Indy -7.5 over Tennessee @ Tennessee
Green Bay +1 over NY Giants @ New York
and my Sure Fire, Can't Miss, Gigantic Shoe-in, Iron Clad Lock of the Week:
Cincinnati -6.5 over Cleveland @ Cleveland
New Orleans -3 over Tampa Bay @ Tampa
You've gotta' be kidding me. Cinci not even getting a touchdown? Even on the road, this one is going to get ugly in a hurry.
New Orleans will be out to make a statement after being humiliated by Indy, and Tampa gets to be their whipping boy.
San Diego is too good to be getting points against anyone, even on the road.
The Bears don't move the ball well enough to be giving 12.
Only a half point keeps me from moving that Dallas game from a "love it" to "lock" status. Same with Indy over Tennessee.
Giants down their starting QB and RB = a loss to Green Bay.
I have some thoughts, and picks jotted down, on the Houston/Carolina game, San Fran/St.Louis, and Seattle/Arizona games, but it's early in the season, so I'm just going with the seven games listed above. |

Well, after a brutal week 2, and missing week 3 (out of town), I'm looking to rebound in week 4.
I like:
SD -11.5 over Kansas City
Detroit +2.5 over Chicago
I love:
New England -7.5 over Cinci (should have jumped on this when it was at 6)
Philly -2.5 over NY Giants
Iron Clad Lock of the Week:
Pittsburgh -6 over Arizona
Colts -10 over Denver
I have some thoughts on these games, but am short on time. Happy wagering. |

For week 5:
WEEK 5
I like:
Washington -3.5 over Detroit @ Washington
Cleveland +16.5 over New England @ New England (that's just a ton of points)
I love:
San Diego over Denver (pick'em) @ Denver
Pittsburgh -6 over Seattle @ Pittsburgh
and my Iron Clad Lock of the Week:
Green Bay -3 over Chicago @ Green Bay
St.Louis +3.5 over Arizona @ St.Louis
Remember, these picks are for entertainment purposes only. I don't want to hear about anyone losing money based on my crappy picking. |

5-2 last week. Let's keep the good karma flowing. I was glad to see New Orleans finally turn it around, even if it did cost me a pick.
Leaning heavily toward the favorites this week.
WEEK 7
I like:
Minnesota +9.5 over Dallas @ Dallas
Philly -5 over Chicago @ Philly
New England -16.5 over Miami @ Miami
I love:
NY Giants -9 over San Fran @ New York
Cinci -6 over NY Jets @ Cinci
Indianapolis -3 over Jacksonville @ Jacksonville
Pittsburgh -3.5 over Denver @ Denver
and my Iron Clad Lock of the Week:
Washington -9 over Arizona @ Washington
New Orleans -9 over Atlanta @ New Orleans
Random thoughts -
Was Dallas exposed as not being as good as we all thought, or did they just run into a buzzsaw of a New England team?
That's a ton of points for New England to give, but Miami is pretty bad, and I'm riding the Patriots until they give me reason to believe otherwise, or run into Indy.
I believe the Bengals will win at home, but whether or not they cover is in question. With the Jets QB problems, I say they will.
Colts look strong. Riding every small point spread until they give me reason not to.
A well rested Steelers team is only a half a point from making it into the Iron Clad Locks. I like 3 a whole lot better than 3.5. Still, Denver hasn't exactly been a world beater this year.
Should my New Orleans pick not go through, I may never pick them again, win or lose. No matter which side of the spread I am on, I seem to consistently miss the New Orleans pick.
Remember this is, has always been, and always will be, for entertainment purposes only. |

Rough week last week. 3-4 and missed both of my locks. Ugh. Let's try to right the ship. I feel much better about my picks, particularly my locks, this week. Going with a lot of favorites.

Tampa -3.5 over Jacksonville @ Tampa
Denver -3 over Green Bay @ Denver
I love:

New Orleans -2.5 over San Fran @ San Fran
and my Iron Clad Lock of the Week:
Cleveland -3 over St.Louis @ St.Louis
Indy -6.5 over Carolina @ Carolina
NY Giants -9.5 over Miami @ ...London?!?
These picks are for entertainment purposes only. |

Not a bad week last week. Let's build on that in week 10!
WEEK 10 PICKS
I like:
Carolina -4 over Atlanta @ Carolina
Chicago -3 over Oakland @ Oakland
I love:
Washington -2.5 over Philadelphia @ Philadelphia
Dallas -1.5 over NY Giants @ New York
Indy -3.5 over San Deigo @ San Diego
and my Iron Clad Lock of the Week:
Buffalo -2.5 over Miami @ Miami
Detroit +1 over Arizona @ Arizona
A couple of other games to keep your eye on Sunday - that St.Louis vs. New Orleans matchup. The Saints are playing well, and Brees has found his groove again, but they could easily look past St.Louis. The Rams are coming off of a bye week, have their QB and RB back, and are going to be hungry for a win, and a win against a good opponent. In the end, I think the Saints may still be too much for them, but I like St.Louis to cover that 11.5 point spread.
Also watch out for that Cinci/Baltimore game. That could be interesting. Cinci has underperformed all year, but the talent is still there. Baltimore is coming off of a sound thrashing at the hands of the Steelers on Monday night. They could be demoralized, and they have possibly the worst QB in the NFL (at this stage of his career) in Steve McNair. If I had to pick it, I'd take Cinci plus the 4. It should at the very least be a good game to watch. |

A lot of big point spreads this week. Most of them involve pretty bad teams (as you would expect from a high point spread). I think most of them will be covered. Just noticed too that I'm taking primarily road teams this week. Here's hoping for a big week for the travellers!
WEEK 11 PICKS
I like:
Green Bay -9.5 over Carolina @ Green Bay
New Orleans +1 over Houston @ Houston
Tampa Bay -3 over Atlanta @ Atlanta
Dallas -10.5 over Washington @ Dallas
St.Louis -3 over San Fran @ San Fran
I love:
NY Giants -2.5 over Detroit @ Detroit
Pittsburgh -9.5 over NY Jets @ New York
New England -16 over Buffalo @ Buffalo
and my Iron Clad Lock of the Week:
Cleveland -2.5 over Baltimore @ Baltimore
Arizona +3 over Cinci @ Cinci
That Cleveland game is my most confident pick of the season.
That might be a big spread for the Patriots game, but Buffalo is terrible and is without Marshawn Lynch. The Pats have put up huge points all season. Sunday shouldn't be any different. |

Not a bad week 11. A lot of good football this week, and it's split up with Thanksgiving. As usual, I'm leaning very heavily towards the favorites this week. Let's get to it then...
WEEK 12 PICKS
I like:
Carolina +3 over New Orleans @ Carolina
Tampa Bay -3 over Washington @ Tampa
Arizona -10 over San Francisco @ Arizona
Denver +2 over Chicago @ Chicago
I love:Indy -11.5 over Atlanta @ Atlanta
NY Giants -7.5 over Minnesota @ New York
New England -22 over Philadelphia @ Philly
and my Iron Clad Lock of the Week:
Green Bay -3 over Detroit @ Detroit
Cleveland -3.5 over Houston @ Cleveland
If I were looking to pick all three games on Thanksgiving day, I would take Dallas -14 over the Jets. I think last week's Jets' win over Pittsburgh was more an off game for the Steelers than it was the Jets stepping up. Dallas is just plain better than the Steelers anyway.
I think a lot of people will be scared off of the Colts after the 13-10 win over KC. I still like the Colts minus the points though. The key to the KC game was the offensive line's inability to protect Manning and buy him time. The Colts and Manning will adjust, and I don't see Atlanta putting up many points on the Colts. I'd say no more than 10, and I believe the Colts will drop at least 24 on them.
The Patriots are giving 22?!? That's the largest NFL spread I've ever seen. Seriously. Does anyone remember a bigger one? Despite the mountain of points, the Pats and Billichick's "run-it-up" style will put at least 35 on the board... and will the Eagles score at all? Pats cover. |

Bad week last week, but at least I got my locks.
WEEK 13 PICKS
I like:
Houston +3.5 over Tennessee @ Tennessee
Indy -6.5 over Jacksonville @ Indy
San Diego -5.5 over Kansas City @ Kansas City
Carolina -3 over San Francisco @ Carolina
I love:
Green Bay +7 over Dallas @ Dallas
St.Louis -3 over Atlanta @ St.Louis
Chicago +1.5 over NY Giants
Cincinnati +7 over Pittsburgh @ Pittsburgh
and my Iron Clad, Can't Miss, Lock of the Week:
Denver -3.5 over Oakland @ Oakland
New England -20.5 over Baltimore @ Baltimore
You can throw the records out the window for Cinci/Pittsburgh. Plus, how good has Pittsburgh really looked the past few weeks?
I'm excited about that Green Bay/Dallas game. Green Bay is pretty beat up with injuries right now, but Dallas has a vulnerable secondary. Favre is playing at an all-time high right now, so I can't pick against him. They might not win, but they should come within at least a touchdown. Too bad we don't get to watch it. Thanks for that, NFL network.
I don't see Kyle Boller and the Ravens moving the ball against the Patriots like Philly did. In addition to that, New England will be out to make a statement after early falling to the Eagles.
Looking forward to seeing the Bears Adrian Peterson playing. A lot of people are saying that they'll be better with him rather than Cedric Benson. I can't wait to see.
The "I'm not going near it" game of the week is Cleveland +1 at Arizona. No idea. Both teams lack defense, both team have been moving the ball extremely well. I'm not touching it. |
