You know, when I was at Purdue, we were a basketball school. My freshman year was Glenn Robinson's last season, and even after that, the Boilermakers won another two Big Ten titles in a row. Matt Waddell, you can't stop him, you can only hope to contain him...
Things went downhill for the basketball program after that (as the football program went in the other direction), and winning seasons became a thing of the past. I love Gene Keady, but he was tired, and really didn't seem to care anymore. Recruiting became a joke.
Now, Matt Painter is here, and he has the two kids from Valpo (Robbie Hummel and Scott Martin), Juwuan Johnson, and E'twon Moore, all top recruits. Moore is easily the best recruit we've had since Glenn Robinson. 2007 will put Purdue back on the map. Painter's commitment to recruiting in addition to these four potential stars should keep Purdue there for a long time to come.
So, to my fellow Boilers out there, tough it out in 2006. Better days are right around the corner, and should be here to stay. |

Wow. The Boilers are off to an unexpectedly good start. I guess having your two best players in Carl Landry and David Tigue back and healthy really makes a difference. Last night was their ninth win, which matches last years total... for the entire season.
Carl Landry won the Big Ten Player of the Week Award an unprecedented 3 times in a row already this season. Even Glenn Robinson didn't do that. |
