Okay, this is the first year we've used the waiver wire process in our fantasy football league. We use cbs.sportsline, and thus far, it's been a real challenge. We had to use it, because what we'd run into in seasons past, is that 3 or 4 guys would always be at the free agent pool at 9am Tuesday morning hitting refresh. Then, as soon as cbs opened the pool for the week, they would snag all of the best free agents (usually back up running backs when the starter got injured). This is a giant competitive advantage, and really isn't fair to the rest of the league. Everyone has jobs, and only a few of our owners jobs allow them constant internet access every week. In order to have a fair league, everyone needs an opportunity to pick up those players.
Solution - We use the waivers process.
The problem is that waivers process works well for some things, but not for others. What we want is to run waivers on Tuesday night and Wednesday night, but then leave the free agent pool open the rest of the time (except when cbs closes it, an hour before game time until waivers begin).
There are two problems however, the first is that regardless of waivers being on or off, cbs allows owners to pick up players anyway. There is a workaround for this though, as there is a checkbox to run a player through the waiver process. The Commissioner can require that everyone do this, and manually enforce it. A pain? Yes, but manageable.
The other problem is a bigger issue... when you drop a player, he immediately goes into waivers and cannot be claimed until the following Wednesday or so! I believe this is because cbs requires a minimum of one day for waivers, and since we only run it Tuesday or Wednesday, it needs a full day, which would be the following Tuesday, and hence, you can't put a claim in until the next Wednesday.
This is unnecessary. We don't want or need this. We use the waivers process to make it fair to everyone, and avoid the 9am Tuesday scramble. However, cbs does not provide an option to turn this off.
Has anyone else encountered this? How do you deal with it in your sportsline league? |
