By now everyone has heard that Cory Lidle, starting pitcher for the New York Yankees, is dead at the age of 34. He died when the small plane he was in, and may have been flying, crashed into a 50 story building on New York's east side. He left behind a wife and a six year old son.
I'd heard a blurb about a small plane crashing into a building earlier in the day, and at the time, they were still discussing the possibility that it could have been a terrorist attack, but they were pretty sure it wasn't. Then to see that it was Cory Lidle, Yankee pitcher, so soon after their series, was shocking.
Here's a link to a good article with some nice information if you want to hear more. It has some nice memories of him from old teammates.

I love seeing the fans bring (or wear) their Cory Lidle jerseys to the games. I love hearing all of the positive things his former teammates have to say about him. It sounds like he'll really be missed. It's a dark day for baseball, and certainly for his family, friends, and family as well. |
