Well last week certainly wasn't pretty. I tried to find some positives from that game but there weren't many if any.
I think this is a crucial game for our boilers. They need to beat a team that many feel is below their level. It's also a big ten road game and if they win they will gain some much needed confidence.
I didn't pay close enough attention last week but can anyone tell me what kind of defensive alignment we used last week? Was it the standard 3-4?
If so, I think we need to change it up. As things stand right now we are getting beat dropping our linebackers into coverage. Our secondary is not great but has gotten better. I say why not put three linebackers up on the line to stop the run and drop one back to help in coverage? The result cannot be worse than what we have seen already. Let our secondary man up on the receivers. The way I look at it right now solid teams are able to run and pass on us. I would rather get beat consistently vs the pass but be able to stop the run. We have to make teams at least one dimensional. The one thing nobody brought up until last week was our d-line. It has been weak up the middle. Our tackles are young, undersized and weak. We need to provide extra support in the middle.
Purdue needs to make a statement this week and stop the run. Their offensive line is considerably smaller than Iowa's so we should have more success controlling the line. I know their left o-tackle is out for the game. Which side is Spencer on? Boy this could be a good matchup for us if he is on that side.
Here's to hoping for a W.
